Towels for Gyms and Fitness Clubs: A Wholesale Buyer’s Guide
Towels are one of the most visible extras a gym offers. Members notice when towels are thin, smell of detergent or run out at peak hours. For the club, towels are a running cost: every one is washed after a single use. The right choice balances comfort for members with fast drying and low laundry cost.
Towel types and sizes for gyms
Most fitness clubs need two towel types: a small one for the workout floor and a larger one for the showers. Clubs with a sauna or pool add a third.

Weight, fabric and colour
Weight. Gym towels work best at 350–450 GSM. They absorb sweat well, dry quickly between wash cycles and cost less to launder than heavy hotel towels.
Fabric. 100% cotton terry is the standard for shower towels. For saunas and pools, peshtemals are a practical alternative: they are light, dry fast and take up much less space in washing machines and storage.
Colour. Dark colours such as grey, navy or black hide sweat marks and fading from frequent washing. White works if your laundry uses bleach. Using one colour for workout towels and another for shower towels helps staff sort laundry faster.
Branding. Many clubs order towels with an embroidered or printed logo to make them part of the brand and to reduce theft.
How many towels to order
Start from your busiest day, not from the number of members. A simple rule of thumb:
- Count the visits on your busiest day.
- Multiply by the number of towels each visitor takes (usually 1 workout + 1 shower towel).
- Multiply by 3 to cover towels in use, in the laundry and in storage.
For example, a club with 300 visits on its busiest day needs about 900 workout towels and 900 shower towels. Plan to replace 10–20% of towels each year because of wear and loss.
